Originally from Tianjin (China), Nan Qi resides in Natal (Brazil), and is currently completing her doctoral thesis at Western University (Canada). She has a B.A. in Music Education from the Tianjin Conservatory of Music and a M.A. from McGill University. A 2nd prize winner at the 1st Chinese National Competition for Music Education University Students, her research interests include critical multiculturalism, immigration, and transformative learning. She has presented and published her work at a number of conferences: the 7th Asia-Pacific Symposium on Music Education Research, the 4th Chinese Overseas Studies, the 6th International Symposium on the Sociology of Music Education, and the 31st ISME World Conference.
Musician and educator, Kari Veblen is Professor of Music Education at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses. Over the past thirty-five years she has worked with music and people of all ages in diverse settings worldwide. Veblen researches at the crossroads of music, education, the arts, and society, currently beguiled by 1) community music networks and individuals, 2) lifelong music learning, and 3) teaching/learning traditional Irish/Celtic musics.She has published widely with over seventy peer-reviewed works including her fourth book Community Music Today (with Messenger, Silverman, and Elliott) and the International Journal of Community Music (with Higgins).
